History & Purpose
Founded in 1974, the California Reserve Peace Officers Association (CRPOA) began as a pioneering effort to enhance the professional, educational, and employment standards for reserve peace officers across California. At its core, CRPOA was created to champion the unique contributions of reserve officers, advocating for their recognition and advancement within the law enforcement community.
Over the decades, CRPOA has worked tirelessly to achieve its mission, building strong partnerships with individual reserves, reserve associations, law enforcement departments, and state-level organizations like the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). By actively collaborating with the California Legislature, CRPOA has driven impactful changes that elevate the standards, protections, and welfare of reserve officers statewide.
A Growing Community
While CRPOA's initial focus was on reserve peace officers, our mission has evolved to reflect the broader needs of California’s public safety community. Today, the association proudly extends its support to search and rescue members and volunteers in policing, recognizing their critical roles in protecting and serving our communities. Whether responding to emergencies, assisting in investigations, or contributing to public safety initiatives, these individuals represent the very best of California’s commitment to service.
A Legacy of Advocacy and Advancement
From the start, CRPOA has been more than an organization. It has been a movement to empower those who serve in often-underappreciated roles. We have championed legislative initiatives to ensure fair treatment and better resources for reserves, while also pushing for training standards that reflect the evolving demands of modern law enforcement.
A Vision for the Future
As we move forward, CRPOA remains committed to its founding principles while embracing innovation and inclusivity. Through initiatives like the Annual Reserve Peace Officers Conference (ARPOC), which provides cutting-edge training and networking opportunities, and our partnerships with organizations like the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), we aim to equip our members with the tools and resources they need to succeed.
Whether you are a reserve peace officer, a member of a search and rescue team, or a volunteer in policing, CRPOA is here to support, advocate, and inspire. Together, we are building a safer, stronger California, one dedicated member at a time.
